For 44 years progressives in South Florida have been enlightened by a series of weekly talks on provocative current issues presented by activists, academics, and authors. You'll not find anything like this elsewhere.

A word from our President

Dear Deerfield Progressive Forum members and friends,

Here is what Becky, the daughter of our dear friend Phyllis wrote to tell us the sad news of her passing.

“Sat, Oct 22 at 7:30 PM

Dear friends and family,

I know that some but not all of you have heard the sad news that Phyllis Kernoff Mansfield died on October 12. She died at home in her house in Boothbay, Maine, in her own bed on a sunny afternoon, with family at her side. She had been in hospice care since July, after learning in June—the day before her 81st birthday—that her lymphoma had returned.

We are working out what sort of memorial to hold for her, and we are thinking of probably something next summer. We will send details when we have them.

Dick (aka Richard and Ricardo!) has moved with me to Columbus. He is staying with me until he can move into an independent living / continuous care retirement community. He can be reached at his email (melvin.richard@gmail.com), by phone (814-571-7046), or at my address: 4860 Glenburn Ave, Columbus, OH 43214.

(I know I don't have email addresses for every friend and relative, so please feel free to share with others.)

With love,

Becky and family”

Phyllis was at the heart of the action for many years at the Deerfield Progressive Forum. She believed that our work had a significant impact and she and Dick worked tirelessly to support the progressive cause in our community. For this, dear Phyllis, you will forever be in our hearts.

“Chippi” Carol Stock,

President

Deerfield Progressive Forum
